Default 32 hood hinge

I have six reproduction 32 hood hinges from various venders. They're all
narrower than the original. Original ones measure between .750 to .760 inches.
The repops measure .720 in width. This causes the hood tops to bind when
lowered in place. I suspect they're all made by vintque. Has anyone ran into
his issue?. I am in need of a hinge that actually fits. They're 32 inches in
length but original ones should be 31 7/8 inches. The repops also do not
slide over the cowl or radiator brackets!

I beg to differ. Originals are indeed exactly 32" in length. At 31 7/8", there's a real risk that the hood side panels will end up too close at either the cowl end or radiator shell or both.

You're right about the reproductions not fitting on the end brackets and binding the hood side panels when the hood sides are raised.

The solution is to find a '33-'36 hood hinge broken on either end and cut it down to 32". There a lot more of those out there in original form and their cross section is identical to that of the '32 version.

I agree the (common existing) reproduction brackets do not have exactly the correct shape as the originals. HOWEVER, they fit the common reproduction (Dales, Rootlieb, Vintique) center strip just fine, with a little judicious filing. The common reproduction center strip is a little different than the originals in cross section and while it will work it does bind a bit on an original hood. Drake years ago did make a more correct cross section strip which worked well with original hoods and brackets, but DID NOT work with the reproduction (Rootlieb, Hoosier) hoods. For the reproduction hoods you need an "common reproduction" center strip. Clear as 80 year old motor oil?

mercguy,

If you can't find a damaged '33-'36 hinge where the damaged area is well beyond 32" and you are not in a hurry, please send me a PM.

Well, can someone tell me what hood hinge I have? It measures (dial caliper) .742 all the way along, and shure looks like a 32nd under 32" long.

A 32nds worth of wear given the amount of flexing that occurs between the radiator shell and the cowl isn't unusual.
