Default Need help : 1948 ford convertible latches

I have a 48 convertible that I’m trying to get the top operational. I have the side latches , but my header center latch was missing. I found a replacement latch , but I’m unsure how it actually attaches and works .

The mounting plate screws to the header with two screws on the center-line of the header. The "tee" end of the latch screws to the mounting plate. Your header appears to have SERIOUS issues which will make it difficult or impossible to attach the mounting plate correctly.

My 48 has a one piece header. Got it from Oak Bows many years ago. Did the factory have a two piece header ?

Yours look like something that was home made, possibly because replacements were not available when it was replaced.

All Fords of the era have a one piece wooden header bar. looks to be a home made unit. this might give you a problem. Lack of stability going up and down. Dave Collette

That homemade header is definitely going to be a problem.

1937-40 (and I think 1941-48) factory headers were two piece with a splined (about 2" wide x 1/2" inside tapering to 1/4" outside height) finger joint in the middle.
