I have a chance to take these on a trade, they are being added for boot on a 39 RatRod. Value of $400.00. The motor on the frame is bound up. The one on a stand will turn. I’ve only seen these pictures myself. WhT do you guys see?

Not sure where the $400 value came from. That would seem like a pretty subjective conclusion at this point. If it were me, I believe I'd be more interested in determining the condition of those two brake drums. And if that is actually a '39 Ford, that brake & clutch pedal assembly is probably worth at least $100. Coop |

The heads (EAB) on the 8BA in the frame were used in '52 and '53 pass car 239 production and had the smallest chambers, meaning a higher ompression ratio. Too bad it's stuck.

The last eab that I bought for 250.00 was stuck. One valve is all that needed to be removed to let it turn. Otherwise, it’s not in bad shape.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at them. So what about the frame? I know it’s hard to tell from pictures

EAB heads are worth something as well. I recently bought an 8ba that was stuck. A 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF and a little bit of patience got it unstuck. A set of used plugs and new oil after draining it and it fired right up. So you never know what you'll get with a flathead.

In this day and age, 400 bucks idn't much money, and all this "Junk" might be a gold mine, Even if one block is good. Yes, stuck valves are more pron to lock up a flathead , than rusty pistons. are all the plugs in? just can't see much these days.

If you go for it I will toss in $100 for the EAB heads if they are good. Tim

If it were me, I would check what the current local scrap price is for say 1800 lbs. That is a good starting place for assigning if the value approaches $400. I have torn apart too many sludge filled rusted, fatally cracked motors to ever do that again as I have a couple of known good blocks. If you are young and like to gamble, go for it! Knowing if they have been sitting outside is an important consideration too. As others pointed out the value there may not be in the engines. Good luck.

Frames that are not rusted out where the X members meet the outside rails are something to keep

Fill up the carb with oil and let it sit awhile.
