My '30 Roadster rumble seat riser/platform has a factory punched hole at each end of the leading edge of the platform about 1 inch from the edge. I would assume they are to attach some type of stop pin or stud to keep the rumble seat cushion in place, but my car doesn't have the studs. I checked Bratton's website and they show the platform but no mention of any stud or pin for the holes:
https://www.brattons.com/28-31-RUMBL...uctinfo/35110/ Is there a specific pin or stud that should go there and where can I find them? Appreciate the feedback. |

Those two holes are for the rumble seat's bottom cushion. From the bottom of the cushion on each side is a looped wire in the same gauge as the coil springs. Each of these wires is two-pronged and formed into an extended loop. Kind of hard to describe, but one picture will instantly convey what these loops do. They are pushed through those two holes in the rumble seat platform and because these loops are made to compress, they will keep the rumble seat bottom cushion in place. Some of the poorer rumble seat reproduction springs don't have these two looped spring prongs. If your seat cushion is missing them, you could make them out of similar gauge wire as the springs and fit them over the bottom seat spring base in the approximate location to where the holes in the platform are located. There is no need to put a bolt through the spring loops on the underside of the platform. The springing action of the loops and the weight of the cushion will keep the seat rest in place.

I have found that the legs are folded up into the cushion spring assembly. Look for them.

Marshall & Bob,
Thank you both for the very helpful insight. I did notice the extended loops you mentioned under my seat cushion. I wanted to secure the cushion the way Henry did it and not cobble something to make it work, so your information is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a million! |

Yes! Bob covered what I had forgotten to mention about those extended loops being folded up inside the coil spring area so that the cushion could be mailed without the prongs poking holes in the cardboard box or requiring a bigger box if the prongs were not folded up. 'Glad that between the two of us, your question was answered. Now, try and figure out a way to secure the top of the backrest against the rumble seat decklid! This can be tricky, as you'll see so many Model A's equipped with a rumble seat these days where the backrest tips forward when the lid is opened because the top anchors were not secured properly. The backrest bottom is no problem: there are two flat brackets attached to the coil spring frame that are secured to the decklid by bolts screwed into the dedicated and threaded holes in the decklid's inner skin. You either have to do this before the decklid is installed or if you are nimble and skinny enough to climb into the rumble seat compartment (with the bottom cushion removed!) and secure the brackets. Yup - installing a rumble seat is fun all the way around! ![]() Marshall |

Marshall,
Thanks for the follow-up. I would have never suspected those elongated loops underneath is what they used to anchor the seat cushion, but they dropped right in! As for your tip on the rumble seat backrest, it was installed by the previous owner and fortunately, it looks like he did a very good job of attaching it as you described. Appreciate it very much. |
