Ok, so, I have the Maintenance Manual. There seems to be two different Cylinder Style Generators -- the one I'm question is the one two wires coming out the unit near the cut-out. it's a number: J-444583. I've two different cut outs too.
My manual doesn't show mine, so how is it wired to the cut-out. It has one wire with a red base, the other has a large termanel I'm assuming is ground, am I right so far? Now does the red-based generator wire go to the front of the cut-out? I HAVE THE MAINTENANCE MANUAL -- THE TWO WIRE GENERATOR IS NOT DISPLAYED MY MANUAL !! There, I'm feeling better |

Take cover off and see where they go. One from field goes to ground. One from main brush goes to cutout. You have a post model a era replacement

It is not a Model A generator. There are two styles of later generators. One has voltage supplied to the field windings by the voltage regulator. The other has the field windings grounded by the voltage regulator. Look for a voltage regulator on your car. You will have to do some detective work with an ohm meter to figure out the generator. Posting some photos will help.
An alternative is to find a Model A generator or an alternator. A good site for all things electrical is below. https://www.mafca.com/downloads/Semi...ex%20Janke.pdf

Does that style of generator have the third brush for regulation too?

Yes it does. I think they were made this way to use either a standard cutout or the 1934-1936 optional 2 charge regulator.

A lot of original A generators were converted to having the 2 wires while being rebuilt so they could be used on the later cars, if you post pictures of what you have we can probably figure out what version you have

I was able to work it out using the two-wire generator. Noticed the cut-out had the words: ARM, Ford, BATT across the top -- installed the wiring accordingly, it checks out great!
