My cousin and I have been working on the 1930 Model A Coupe my father left me after he passed away last November. My father took the car apart to restore it about 15 - 20 years ago, but never finished it. Unfortunately the old garage he stored it in had a leaky roof and the area flooded whenever there was heavy rains. When we started looking at the engine we found rust in the oil pan and on the crankshaft making the engine seize up. After removing the caps and finding the offending cap seizing the engine we got the engine spinning again. The next roadblock we hit was after we started putting everything back together. After torqueing the cap bolts to 80 ft lbs, the crankshaft won't turn. We were going to check the spacing with plastigauge and possibly add more shims, etc. My cousin, who owns multiple Model A's lives an hour away and can only come by on a Monday due to his work schedule. Unfortunately, he's had to cancel a few times holding back our progress.
I'm thinking about looking into a mechanic (or at least an expert) in my area who can possibly help getting the engine going and reinstalling everything back into the car. I already missed a few weeks and I'm only available on Mondays during the summer until I go back to work in September. I live in Bergen County, NJ, in the Paramus area.
Thanks.
