Was working on a friend's car (which was running poorly) and noticed that the intake manifold frosted-up when the car was first started. Frost stayed there for quite a while till the engine was good and warm. Thoughts, anyone?

Intake icing doesn't always lead directly to performance issues. Sometimes it's just a byproduct of your ambient temp and humidity. This problem is more common on cars that use an air filter. It may also indicate a poor interface between the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Thanks. Just wondering if it might be related to carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. The plugs were pretty sooty.

Let me ask...do you have an air filter on it...if so take it off, and the frosting will go away

i havent had a model a do that. i would guess, like said above, temp and humidity. let it warm up. edit is probably why ford bolted it to the exhaust manifold.

Intake icing is a cause of poor performance, intake heating is common. Make sure your intake is bolted tightly to you exhaust manifold.
Cold intake air causes poor atomization of the fuel,it is a cause of hesitation. |
