I have just acquired a '53 accessory 4 spoke steering wheel but it's missing the internal contacts to make the horn operational. If someone has these parts to sell I would appreciate it or even photos of what I need to find would help heaps, thanks in advance for any help

It may be that the '52-'53 accessory four spoke steering wheel was all white, and the '54 accessory four spoke steering wheel was black and white. The one I had, NOS in the box, was all white. Some Barner will know for certain.
I am not sure either that these steering wheels had a full circle horn ring. |

Yes the top half of the horn ring on this one has been broken off some time in the past then cleaned up and re-chromed, but it still looks good to my mind anyway ![]()

Here a few pictures of the accessory steering wheel, in my 53' Mercury that is correct.
The picture of the back of the wheel, the plate has a spring behind it. I think it might be the same for the Ford wheel too. Hope it helps. Last edited by Merc Cruzer; 03-15-2022 at 02:31 PM. |

Thanks all for your help, I think I've worked out the wiring situation. I think they use the standard horn wire with with a spring loaded center contact. The foam pad in the button appears to have deteriorated over time and lost it's flexibility. I am waiting for some high density foam to arrive so I can replace the original foam as this seems to be the only thing keeping the horn contacts apart inside the button. There doesn't appear to have been any spring internally like the other buttons or rings I am familiar with. I'll keep you all posted.
