Question 34 Deluxe lighting issues

So I have a 34 Ford Deluxe, still 6v system. When I apply the brakes the headlights flicker and die out, releasing the brake the flicker and return. I’ve replaced lighting harnesses front and back, ran extra wires soldered to headlamp grounds and ran to frame. Good light sockets and brake switch has been ruled out as well. I feel I’ve done everything possible but the issue still persists. Has anyone ever had this issue? About to replace under dash harness, only thing left to change. Rebuilt generator and. The only part not new is the fuse block with resistor. And no there is nothing being pinched by brake pedal.

It sounds like there could be a short circuit to ground when the stop light switch operates. But in that case if your wiring is original FORD then the under dash 20 amp fuse should blow if the wiring is connected on the correct side of the fuseholder. Does your dash ammeter show a full discharge when you operate the brake pedal and do the stop lights actually work ? The mechanical brake stop light switches have been known to fall apart inside and short to ground. Remove the two wires off the stoplight switch. Turn your headlights on and then touch the two stoplight wires together and report back the results. Regards, Kevin.
