I am having an issue with removing the rear drum. Doing it because the emergency brake is not operating. The drum is loose on the hub and I can remove it about 1/4 - 1/2 inch but no more; I cannot pull it off. There is no movement possible when I try to jiggle the emergency brake service arm at the rear wheel, neither before I started to remove the drum, nor during. It feels as it is somehow jammed, not moving, and preventing the drum from being removed.
Any suggestions of my next step? Thanks |

Do you have all of the shoes backed off all the way? I've seen an original steel drum so worn that there was a ridge right at the edge near the backing plate. That made pulling it off difficult.
How wet is it there? The news is full of how much rain you guys are getting. We have had only 7mm this month and 12 since Christmas. It's DRY! Last edited by Synchro909; 02-24-2022 at 11:35 PM. |

Try turning the drum as you pull on it, this will help if the shoes are hanging up.

The brake problem is probably the shaft on the brake arm is seized in the bore. After freeing would be good to put some lube on the shaft. Pulling the hub usually requires a puller - don't know why your hub is slightly loose. Let us know how it goes.

Any puller I have used will only break the hub lose. They did not have the "travel" to pull it all the way.
When you turn the drum while pulling it, what do you hear? The drum on the shoes? When you let it go, does it want to spring back on? |

Would copious brake cleaner spray application assist? Do more harm than good? |

You might have a ridge of built up, hardened grease around the edge of the drum that the brake shoes are pushing against. Play a propane torch around and around the edge of the drum to warm and soften the ridge and see if you can then pull the hub off.

Guess who forgot to completely back off the brake adjustment wedges? Did that and left and right hubs came right off. |
