Default Flywheel balancing

Anyone have recommendations for flywheel reconditioning/balancing in the New York Metropolitan area?

We're in Massachusetts if you can't find anyone. I could do it while you wait.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that as I go to VT sometimes and the timing works.

You folks on the east coast have it relatively easy going from state to state. Out here in the wild west we are days away from our neighbors. NYC to J&M Machine - around 200 miles. 200 miles in any direction from where I live and I'm still several hours inside California.

Ditto Brent's comment. I have lived in several states during career, and there is nowhere in the USA with the conveniences of the New York - Long Island Metro Area.

I believe that Northern California and Southern California are two different states. I know I had to show my passport driving into the Bay Area.

There are conveniences, but experienced Model A rebuilders is not one of them.

That 200 give or take miles to get to J&M is like driving 500 miles out in the west.

Long story, but that’s not likely to happen in my wife’s lifetime… which, thank heavens, is not at all in question.

The NY Metro Area covers a wide range. Specifically, where are you located??? There are still local reputable machine shops out there, so narrowing your location may allow someone to suggest someone local to them a bit easier. Otherwise, you can go to the MAFCA website and get info on specific Model A engine rebuilders and choose one that might be easier to drive to then, say, Massachusetts. All depends on your point of reference.

"What does this have to do with balancing a flywheel"? I'm in New England and J&M Machine shop put together my new 5 main bearing modern model A engine I purchased from a supplier. John & Mike are 2 of the most honest and knowledgeable guys I have come across in the machining business. I told them to go through the engine and any imperfections that come up we have to address them because this is a car that I want to leave to my children so they can enjoy it. The longevity of the engine was very important to me. We found imperfections brought it up to the company and they said that this is the way the engines come and they are just fine to be built the way they are. If we machine it the warranty is in void. As a consumer I already purchased the engine and spent thousands of dollars in parts and shipping and 15K for the car its self. I really wanted A new modern engine so I would not have to worry about A 100 year block from cracking again like my old engine. We machined the imperfections, built the engine with all brand new parts that we had to make a long list for so we could purchase them from the supplier, paid my mechanic to take out the old engine and put in my new one. It was the best thing I ever did this engine runs like butter. I am so happy with the engine. I am always driving the car with A smile on my face. I brought my new cast iron drums to John and Mike they mounted new bearing races, new hub bolts, and machined the drum surfaces. The supplier said only certain machine shops have the tools to do the drums and I was grateful for J&M to have them. My mechanic was also impressed with the job they did. We need machine shops for all different types of things in this industry. As A lot of Machine shops are disappearing this is not an example you should be displaying for the hobby of Ford model A's. We need machine shops all over the country to keep this hobby going not just the ones that obey your orders and do your builds. We all benefit, the innovators like yourself and the consumers. As A consumer you can do your own due diligence on which machine shop to use but as A patron of J&M machine shop I'm very happy with the work they did and the way I was treated there.

Cleaned up. Dave the drama for some place else. I’m not interested in hosting it.

Also, J&M… I’ve heard you do great work.

Thank you Ryan for cleaning it up. From such a benign comment why did I get slammed?

Let's stick to the subject.
There's enough grumpy old men in this forum.

I'm in central NJ. There are some machine shops I've dealt with in the area, but none that know anything about a Model A. I took my block to one to get cleaned and the guy felt like he saw a unicorn.

If they're a reputable machine shop and can do balancing, ask them if they have a CWT or Hines, machine .
Just need the "flywheel mandrel" to spin pressure plate and flywheel as a unit.
As I have shown in the picture.
