Hello,I mainly hang out on the early V8 Forum. I found this original Model A emblem recently and was wondering if any experts here can help ID its origin. No makers mark on the back.The disc is missing off the back and I have seen blue emblems with the makers mark stamped on the disc itself.In all my years messing with Ford parts I have never seen a red porcelain Model A one. Black yes from Canada. Thanks

I've seen red emblems on 32-34 Fords assembled in Denmark.

Maybe the same thing going on here?

Not tractor.Tractor did not TMK have porcelain filled emblems. The '32's from Europe I have seen and had were from Model Y Ford's and they are curved.This is flat.

Many years ago at the Indy Swap Meet there was a vendor selling Model A Emblems reporcelainized in various colors other than the original Ford blue. This may be one of them.

I believe that Bob Drake or maybe it was Summit had these in their catalog a few years ago... available in several different colors and yes, they were porcelain.

Something nobody has mentioned is it appears the emblem is a stepped edge emblem. I believe as far as the USA is concerned the stepped edge emblem was only used in 1928.

I have had a few blue stepped edge emblems but have never seen a red emblem. If the red emblem was from some country outside the US then may be the stepped edge was also used in 29.

I think I would have to agree with Bud comment #9. The plating and porcelain, look to nice to be an untouched original.

Bob Drake does not and never made the emblems for Model A, only early V8. Not aware of Summit.

Kaolin clay is used for porcelain and vitreous enamel is a colorant that is used on glass, porcelain, and several other substrates. Vitreous enamel is a form of glass and other materials that have powdered metalic colorants added. Even the word enamel is based on older words like smelzan and esmail depending on the language of the user. Both refer to smelted glazing and should not be confused with modern enamel paint which only appears to look like real vitreous enamel when dried.

If a manufacturer has dies to form the metal then they can make a large quantity of them relatively quickly considering the steps needed to melt each different color. A single color reduces the steps needed to make them.
