Default Driving and shifting

I would like to thank, all Fordbarners for the help they provided in proofing my site. I have a new section Starting and Driving. Let me know of my mistakes and things you think I should add. I would like to give special thanks to Steve Plucker for letting me use his Sticky Link and Luke Dahlinger for providing the perfect picture for my home page.

Lots of really good info. on starting, carb enrichment, etc. Thanks for the help. Great site, especially for newbies.

Great job! The site will help many, both "new" and "old" owners. Gar Williams

Allow me to make another pitch for videos instead of static text, illustrations, and photos... Please don't take offense. The site is wonderful, as is. I really believe that. But consider how much better it could be, based on the honest input of a newbie learning the ropes. Here goes...

1. Before buying my Model A, I had already read how to start and drive the car. How to double-clutch and downshift (if that is even possible). How to time the car. How to do minor repairs. Etc, etc, etc. There are plenty of sites with that info. But it's largely presented with static text and illustrations like yours. But things really came to life for me when I sat and watched somebody do it. Seeing with my own eyes, instead of reading it, changed everything.

2. YouTube was another source of information for me. There are a few videos telling how to start and drive the car. I watched them ten times each. I learned much more by watching those videos than reading the steps. (This was before your site was live.)

3. There is already plenty of written documentation newbies can rely on. Why add more? Why not augment that wealth of written documentation with videos? If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth two thousand. You get so much more out of it than text.

4. Nowadays, it is almost as easy to post a video on your web site as it is to write up an article. Just pull out your camera, have somebody film you, and upload it with Camtasia, or directly to YouTube.

Again, this is not a condemnation of your site. I love it! It's well-done. You've done a fantastic job. I'll go back and take a look from time to time, because I'm still a newbie.

I am always looking for help. If you create a video I will be more than willing to look at it and post it. For myself to learn, I take things apart and recreate them. I do it for fun, and instead of letting it rot on my computer, I thought it would be good to share. Videos in the future might be possible, but at this time it is not my thing. I was not being sarcastic about the video. I think it is a great Idea. If you or someone else wants to help, it would be deeply appreciated.
