Sorry to divert this a bit...
I always thought the rumble lid handle on a '36 appeared "goofy" when installed correctly. I can understand and appreciate the reason it is installed that way. I can also understand why so many are (currently) installed incorrectly.

If the handle is installed other than the proper direction the lock will not work. Try to force the key to rotate will brake the handle internal parts.

A Pair of 1936 Ford Roadsters, one with the American Body (Maroon) and one with an Australian Body (Tan).
They both have the Rumble Seat Handles mounted in the correct position.
