A silly question. Mounting tires today and after I put on the rubber rim strip, I noticed that the hole for the tube stem was in the middle of the rim strip. I didn't expect to see this and it got me wondering. Do I ignore the hole and leave the rim strip in the center of the rim as in photo A or do I slide the rim strip to the side and insert the tube through the hole of the rim strip as in photo B.

Letter "A" is correct. I'd suggest you trim the strip a bit so there is proper clearance for the valve.

I've always felt that a Ford welded spoke wheel, or any wheel that's smooth all around the inside doesn't need that rubber strip at all.

Last Coker bi tires and tubes I bought said specifically on the sticker attached not to use that rubber strip.

i have always felt its really for real wire wheels that have the ends of the spoke and nipple exposed on the inside of the rim

I believe the rubber strips were designed for the Model A wheels with the valve in the center of the drop rim.

I was going with A, or not use it. But I thought that I’d toss it out there to see what the general consensus was.
