I just received a new head gasket in the mail from Sacramento vintage ford. One side is dented . Does it look usable?? Sacramento said I have to make a claim thru p.o. even though the package was not damaged. They also expect me to pay to mail it back. Should I attempt to use this gasket.

When in doubt through it out! It’s not worth the labor involved.

As long as the center material is not missing or ripped it will be OK. The copper will press flat with torque.

Update: Sacramento Vintage Ford called to say they are shipping another head gasket free of charge.

A good update.
I always use a gasket sealer when I instal a head gasket. If what I see in the photograph is the extent of the damage, I'd use it.

That's not at all a problem. I wouldn't have even given it a thought. You just got a free gasket, compliments of Sac Vint Ford.

It doesn't look damaged in any spot that would cause a problem, use it. I use silver spray paint on both sides, light 1st coat, let dry, heavy 2nd coat, install when still tacky.

Yes, use it. I've used worse with copper coat sprayed on it.
If it works, do the right thing and send the new gasket back to Sacramento Vintage.
None of the vendors work on a very big profit margin.

This has been quite an experience . I originally ordered a complete engine gasket set with a copper head r4 gasket but Brattons sent the silicone head gasket. Which I don't want because that's the same gasket that split in between cylinders 3 & 4 then getting stuck in the intake valve. I noticed that gasket was wider than the head surface between the cylinders 3&4 thus a factor why head gasket blew. So then Sac Vintage sent me a marked up gasket. At that point I almost blew a gasket.............. I am extremely happy to report that I just finished installing a better copper r4 gasket and my A. Is running extremely good !!!!! I find it amazing that a 1930 vehicle could run so well!! I would guess the head gasket was leaking when I bought it 5 years ago.
Thank You to everyone that posts helpful info on these forums it would be a lot harder without your help !!
