Radiator hose diameters
I had a brand new black with red stripe top radiator hose split wide open and was lucky not to destroy the engine.
I want to buy a new hose set and want to avoid the hoses the suppliers sell. Does anyone know the diameter of the top and bottom hoses so I can try maybe NAPA or elsewhere? Thanks.

Re: Radiator hose diameters
I just replaced my top hose with a replacement from Bratton’s. It seems to be 2” inner diameter. The bottom hose seems to be 1 3/4” inner diameter.

For whatever reason, the black with red stripe hoses are pricey.

Re: Radiator hose diameters
The black with red stripes were used on most cars while the completely red ones were rare on original ones. You would think that the red ones would be more expensive? Maybe it is the fact that the black hoses have to have a red stripe added, more work?

Follow up post. I went to Napa and to an other auto parts store; both sold hose by the ft that was very similar to the supplier's hose but had a white or green stripe rather than a red. Seemed to me slightly thicker and better made. In the end though, it decided I wanted the best available hose on the market so purchased black silicone hose which is 4ply for the 2" ID hose (supplier's is 2 ply), and 3ply for the 1 3/4" hose.

OK, understand there are at least two different suppliers of Radiator Hoses. As I understand it, one set is made off-shore and very susceptible to issues as you are describing. The other set are US manufactured. Ask your supplier where the origin of manufacture is, and go from there. I only use the US made ones and have never had an issue. FWIW, there is not any value in using the silicone hoses as there should not be any pressure on the system. |

Are the red striped ones made overseas? Why avoid suppliers?

Re: Radiator hose diameters
I bought the red striped ones last year and they physically fell apart in six months. I don't remember who I purchased them from, I will check my records for the supplier.

Re: Radiator hose diameters
Looks pretty beat up for 200 miles. Did you contact the supplier and ask about a replacement ?

I didn't think I was the only victim. I wonder how many guys have suffered engine damage because of these fake hoses.

Re: Radiator hose diameters
I've got hoses on order currently. I got the black/red stripe because they said "American made", plus they look better than the Orange hoses IMO.
I hope I don't get junk like described here..

Re: Radiator hose diameters
I purchased my black silicone hoses from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies, New Berlin WI.
"This hose is built for endurance and performance in custom coolant plumbing and intake systems. Silicone rubber with 4-ply reinforcement makes this hose tough, reliable, and flexible to temperatures from -50°C to +200°C (-58°F to +356°F)." https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/gr...pID=COOLSHORTK Could not find any other suppliers of 2" ID silicone straight hose. Also purchased some hi-temp glue spray which is on special: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...asp?RecID=6854 And they didn't charge me tax.

Re: Radiator hose diameters
You never did answer whether you contacted the company that sold you the faulty hose and what their response was. Who was it purchased from ?
