I have a 32-36 distributor that I believe is aftermarket, not ford. I bought it just to practice tearing one down. It has 29017, EE and 14 (underlined) on the outside bottom plate. The edge of the mounting plate has 1-H on it. the bottom side of the helmet has 2 in a circle. On the opposite side is a 7. Any thoughts as to what this thing is?

I'm not sure I've ever seen an actual '32-'36 aftermarket distributor. Although I have seen plenty of aftermarket components made as replacement parts for these distributors, ie, points, condensers, coils, inner terminal plates, rotors, and bearings.
Some of these same year original distributor housings that I've accumulated over the years, have the same or similar markings on the outside areas of the aluminum housing. Would love to see some pictures showing these markings

If JM 35 has never seen an aftermarket distributor of this vintage, then it has to be Ford which is a good thing. Thanks.

that is just a basic factory 1933-36 Distributor. The numbers are just casting mold numbers and have NO meaning.

I don't think I have ever seen a ford part number on the aluminum bodies of any helmet distributor.

I believe most, if not all, of those helmet distributors that I own have the number 29017 cast into that back area, and the other markings you mentioned.... 1-H on edge of the mounting plate, a
2 in a circle on the bottom side of the helmet and, and 7 on the opposite side, are very similar markings on all the originals in my collection.

Do the markings 40-B on the weights have any significance?

40-B is the standard Late 1933 through 1936 weight and shaft assembly. Very Very common. They advance 8 degrees (16 degrees crank).
