Some of the tops I found have this hole punched out. Are they junk or is there a reason for it. Thanks, Rick

That's a vent for the pump housing. This particular top is for '39 - '40.

That is the float bowl vent. Every carb needs, and has, one. Older carbs, like this one, had external vents. Newer carbs have internal vents, often a tube sticking up under the air cleaner. |
