Default Threaded Stud? Woodie door latch part question..

On my '38 Woodie: I pulled the door latch when working on the window regulator and discovered more Mickey Mouse activity. I'm not too familiar with these latches, but it would appear someone replaced the original slide pin with this hardware-store bolt.

It looks to me like this pin should have a shoulder (on which the plate slides) and either a tapped hole or threaded stud that goes through the face of the latch itself to bolt it all up tight.

Anyone familiar with these latches? I've looked around for a source for latch parts and haven't come up with much (especially for a wagon).

Thanks
