Default Header Flange Needed

I have Fenton headers on my F-1 and the flange broke on one of them. It’s easy to buy a steel flange but cast iron is another story. If anybody can cut the flange off of a Cast Iron Header (or manifold) that is 2” I would be happy to buy it and pay shipping. Thanks, Don PS; if you know where I could buy one online that would be even better. And PSS; we do have a welder to weld it on.

I did that on my '39 Deluxe Fordor and I was able to have the broken cast iron piece bronze welded back on. After the repair, it was as good as new.

Not sure the nature of your break, so this might not be an option, but hoping it is!!

I have a guy that does cast iron welding so I’ve got that part taken care of. The problem is that they do not do any fabrication work of any kind and my flange is missing pieces and not usable. They can’t/won’t weld on a steel flange so I have to find a replacement and I think that the only place I can get one is off of an old manifold.

You can buy cast iron raw material. Worst case you can buy some and have a local shop machine or laser/waterjet one for you.

19, no that wont work that’s the steel flange that is welded to the exhaust pipe to allow it to bolt up with the header flange.

Okay, I can picture the repair you have in mind. You'll cut the flange off a donor manifold, cut away the broken surface on you Fenton to mate the new flange and then weld it up, making sure it will make a tight seal with your block.

Maybe someone on here who just went to headers and willing to part with the old manifolds will respond.

Here is where you can buy industrial grade cast iron plate usable for manifolds and then have it water jet cut to size. Not cheap but, these days, nothing is cheap.
https://www.speedymetals.com/c-8387-flat.aspx and MI

Not sure where you are located but they have outlets in WI, IL and MI. Maybe you could make a road trip and buy a piece of scrap.

Google "cast iron plate stock" and more info. appears.

This may be a crazy idea but could you buy a high quality cast iron tray or frying pan and make your flange from that?

There are some flathead exhaust manifolds on Ebay you might be able to CUT use.

MORE IDEAS: It is possible to weld steel to cast iron.
https://welderacademy.com/how-to-wel...omplete-guide/

With that in mind you might want to cut up the flathead header flange available from Speedway and give it a try using high nickel content cast iron welding rod . That way you are working with fresh new, clean metal.

Come on guys. This has got to be pretty simple. Unless this guy lives on the edge of Outer Mongolia, there's got to be at least 5 guys with unused Ford exhaust manifolds within a stone's throw from his house. I have Fenton's on my '51, and mine (at least) have the same flange size as a stock Ford exhaust manifold.

Anyone have a cutoff wheel? I'd do it, except I'm in Florida for the winter and all m stuff is back up in Minnesota (and probably frozen in).

Speedyway motors $335.00 if they still have any. Best way, cheapest way, easiest way.

Surely, the buying of a new set of $335 FENTONS is not the best solution.
https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Searc...head%20headers

tubman's response makes most sense. There must be a Fordbarner out there with a used header that can be cut up for parts.

To make sure everyone understands, I am talking a stock Ford exhaust manifold, not another Fenton (or clone). I am not enough of a metallurgist to know of how, if at all, different material properties will effect the weldability.

There is more to this story that I didn’t include because I don’t think it should matter if Guyz would just look at what I was asking for. This Fenton is on a 1951 F-1. Neither Fenton or anyone else that I know of ever made a header for this vehicle. That standard Fenton header hits the steering box and will NOT work. Years ago we had the outlet/flange of the drivers side header modified by a cast iron fabricator (now dead). The freaking flange has now broken and I have to deal with it. Was the original modification the cause of the flange breaking? I don’t think so, most likely it was because the header pipe did not meet up perfectly. All of the exhaust system except the header itself will be replaced at this time and I am considering installing a section of flex between the header and header pipe. I don’t need advice on how to weld it, I have an expert to do the welding (cast iron only not cast iron to steel) (the welder himself does not do any fabricating), I just need the stupid flange, there is nothing complicated about this. I thought that surely someone on here could help me out with that but it seems that I was wrong about that. It seems that 75% of the people on here do not bother to read the original post, they just read the last comment and jump in from there. To those of you who actually read my original post and understood what I was asking for, thank you.

I live in Seattle, it’s a pretty big place as I’m sure you all know but sometimes it like we are still in the wilderness when it comes to things such as this. 90% of the guys that were doing this kind of work are dead. I have to go with what I have available to me locally.

The Seattle EFV8 club has over 200 members (I am one who joined in 1973) I now live 100 miles from Seattle. Contact them. Google Puget Sound Regional Group 18. If you want to drive to Shelton I will give you an exhaust manifold you can cut up. PM me if interested.

Is this what you need?
I can look today to see if I saved them. I made two flanges from 5/16 or 3/8 plate that were to big for my 1.75 tubing.

The last one inch piece cut off of a stock Ford exhaust manifold will fit in a USPS "Small Flat Rate Box" and can be shipped anywhere in the country for ten bucks.

Another reason to include your general location in your profile.
