Default Oil Pressure Sender Thread size

59 C Block Oil sender connection. Left rear.
Whats the thread size for this to allow fitting of a tee piece to fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge?
Appreciate assistance.

1/4 [American]national pipe thread [18 TPI] Not as common down under here in NZ, our standard is British [BSP] which at 1/4" has 19 TPI. Make sure you get the right fitting[s]

Ok thanks, BSP is not the fitting to be looking at.

In the US it is listed as NPT, which is National Pipe Thread, as Brian posted.

Seems like an "enterprising" machinist or auto supplier would have a brass adapter for the "down under" market.

They are available down here, just that they're not standard pipe fittings. You'll need to stipulate 1/4 NPT [national pipe thread]

Ok so they can be sourced here, NPT. Who to go to, not Mitre 10 or the likes?

Have found them on line in NZ. Ordered them.
Thanks again

You might have a bit if a problem finding a N.P,T fitting in N.Z Titan who makes most of the brass fittings here do not list it. What you can do is make up a tee from an old 6 volt sender unit with a bit of easy flow brazing. I can and have tested several of these Ford V8- 6 volt oil sender units and there are two different models.

The NPT thread size ought to be available outside the US as it is used commonly in air compressor fittings.

Mart.

Are the tapers & threadcuts so dissimilar that you can't make a mistake by mixing 19TPIs with 18TPIs? Jack E/NJ

Jack, Yes, BSP not only has differing thread counts throughout the range, but the o'd tends to be a tad smaller., meaning it is possible to start BSP male fittings into NPT female. With copious lashings of thread dope, one could probably get it all to seal, but it's not right!! Far better to get the right fittings first time around!
