I let the machine shop install the rear rope seal on my 59AB. For the front seal, I used the one piece version from Speedway. Saved all the problems of a hack mechanic trying to put a rope style in place.

We sell the front seal kit (one piece seal and matching smooth sleeve). The rear seal will have to be the factory type rope seals. These ropes are retained by the two pot metal half round pieces, which we also have in stock. There is no way to put a one piece rear crank seal on a flathead V8 engine.

Thank you. That's what I was looking for. I have the case, just need the rope seal. The one they used in Vern Tardel's book came with a gauge & cutter to trim it to the correct length

I like the rear seal material that comes in a Best Engine Gasket Set. I don't know if they can be purchased separately. I bought my last two complete engine gasket sets from Michael Driskell, Third Generation Automotive, in Tennessee. Good folks to deal with.

They can be bought separately from Van Pelt and come with the gauge and cutter.
