If i put a reground cam in my model a will the stock (non adjustable) lifters cause the valve stems to be to high off of the lifters? In other words, are the stems to short for a reground cam? Jack

Might be too tight just as much too loose on a valve to valve basis. In other words each one tells its own story, starting over again. Because of the re-grind cam, might tend to be loose. Go with adjustable lifters.

You are going to have to use adjustable lifters or change all the valves. Then you would have to grind the end of the stems for the right clearance. Not a easy job. best to just by adjustable lifters.

I think there is only one good answer, adjustable lifters. Anything else means a lot of work and potential problems and noise.

As a side note, never use used lifters with a new or reground cam because after being broken in the old cam and lifters become a "matched set". Just as lifters should be kept with the same lobe on the cam.

So as long as you need to buy new lifters to go with your reground cam, go with the adjustable.

Some adjustable lifters have too small a diameter foot, so be sure to check the diameter.

The single lock Colony brand lifters have the larger foot diameter Tom is referring to. All the new double lock lifters I have seen in the past 5 years have the small diameter foot.

Thanks for all of the replies. It is a good thing i asked the question, it saved me a lot of work and i will end up with the better setup. Where do i find the "colony brand" of lifter? Jack

Bert's sells them the last time I heard.

The nice thing about Berts is that they use the repro parts in their repair shop and they know which ones work and which ones have issues.

I found the Colony brand at Snyders. Berts was closed this morning because of the time zone. I'm Eastern Daylight savings time. Again thanks for keeping me out of trouble. Jack

j, even with adjustable lifters, you likely find that new valves will be too long. With a valve grinding machine they can be shortened so the lifter is in the easy to adjust range.

If your cam was reground STOCK, and I mean with the original type grind, then you need the large face diameter lifters.
If it was reground with a modern type grind, then you can use any of the 1 inch face diameter lifters.
Check with the shop that ground it.
