Got a Mallory crab on a 284 French block, ran fine then died, no spark at plugs. Changed the coil, all wires ok. Think it might be the distributor, do these have any internal parts that can wear out / fail? I can't find a manual for them online.
Thanks for any replies. |

Don't see any mention of the condenser?

If not the condenser, electronics on the whole have improved immeasurably the rule still holds true. The internal module will either last almost forever or like all electronic devices with boards & chips will work for a while then fail in a short time. Most work a long time. How old is urs? Think Mallory has a good warranty.

Assuming it is electronic, if you do not have a resistor in the power to the coil and distributer you will have burnt the module out.

Re my previous post, you may have to have full 12 volt to the distributer hot wire but definately need a resister to the coil. You should have a Mallory wiring diagram and wire it exactly as it shows.
The diagram below is for a Speedway distributer that uses a Mallory module however yours may be different. |
