Hi, everyone! I'm new here because I am tackling a first restoration and am having a little difficulty deciphering my plates. It seems most pages I found are blank or info doesn't match my numbers.
The serial # is 473BK55-16207 (I believe the 73B is the Custom fordor sedan and the 16207 is the production number. What are the rest? Trim GC, Paint 11, Model 473B, Body 7102C, one other number I can find is CDB55. Any help on these codes would be nice. Also, I am having an issue with the solenoid. It is chattering very loudly, battery is new. I believe that when the original didn't work well, I swapped out with another but it didn't say the voltage. Car is a 6v positive ground. The solenoid isn't stamped with the voltage. So, the question is, if it is a 12v solenoid, will it chatter because it is not drawing enough voltage to click all the way? Thanks for any help. ![]() |

Yes if it's a 12 volt solenoid it will chatter on 6 volts, if it does anything at all.
If it has 3 terminals it's 6 volt, 4 terminals is 12 volt. . |

Can you post a photo of the patent plate as the characters do not sound correct.

dmfsrr, the solenoid I removed first was the first pic, the 6v. The two replacements that I have look more like the second, but the second offset bolt is missing but there is room for it.

If it is FORD of CANADA, I have no assembly information. You would need CANADIAN FORD CATALOGING or a car club there to help break down the PATENT PLATE info. Sorry... ![]()

On a 6v car you also need "0" (zero) or 1 gauge starter and battery cables, the size of your thumb not smaller ones. Clean connections on those cables are also very important. The (positive) battery ground cable works best when connected to the engine block/head, not the sheetmetal of the body. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 06-23-2018 at 08:21 PM. |
