Default 28/29 crank bearing

I have a question about the part Bratton's calls the "crank bearing". That seems like a strange name, but I have no idea if that is its real name or not. I have attached some picture of the two 1928/29 parts in question, whatever their names. Anyway, there is a difference between the 2 crank bearings. The alignment protrusions on the bottom are in different locations - at least one of then is. The black one's nubs don't fit in the front crossmember holes. The blasted one does align with the crossmember holes. In addition, the black one has a small hole in it seem from the bottom and has a little larger crank hole tunnel. Does anyone know what the deal is with these two parts and why they are different? Maybe Ford made a change in the front crossmember sometime in 28 or 29 to match the black part. BTW, neither of the alignment holes in my front crossmember are elongated. I do have a 29 frame, so it isn't a 30/31 frame problem.

Steve Plucker has written about this part. Have you read it:

Hope this helps.

Jim,
Thanks for the information on Pluck's website. I keep forgetting about Steve Plucker's and Vince Falter's very good websites. Both have a plethora of good information. I never knew there were different crank bearings except for 28/29 and 30/31 styles.
