Default Head Torquing Number

I'm not too far away from putting the heads back on my 35 engine and have
the correct torquing sequence but need to know the final number I need to
torque them to.

Also remember to re-torque them after several heat cycles. Actually several re-torque checks are a good practice.

Do you have to loosen before retorquing?..... Mark
I read somewhere about “slip tighten”?....you dont get an accurate reading by just tightening.

I was taught to back off 1/8th turn and retighten through the torque chart 1 at a time. Have never had any problems with head gaskets. I always do at least 3 Hot/cold/re-torque cycles before there isn't any more movement.

I often wondered about backing off the nuts and re-torqueing. Would this not have the potential to also move the stud causing a leak on a fresh engine?
Just a thought..
