Default Fabricating oil pickup?

Has anyone fabricated an oil pickup tube for their flathead from scratch? I have an 8BA with a center sump pan (been identified as a '53 pass car pan I believe) and the only pickup tube I can find is a truck sump for the pan with the pickup at the back. Before I cut up the one I have, I'm considering making my own from scratch. Maybe even stainless.

Any ideas or suggestions?

If you post your location there might be someone close with an extra.
If you have a truck pickup you could just modify the tube.
With stainless make sure it can handle vibrations.

If you read my book you will see that I made a pickup tube to coordinate with my fabricated aluminum oil pan. I used 5/8" hydraulic tubing from MSC. I filled the tube with non-compressible material and made die/shoe parts. If I did it again I might experiment with water filling and freezing before bending.

If you're close to Minnesota, I have a couple of extra 8BA pickups. If they would work, I'll send you one for shipping costs (probably about $10).

They're backordered indefinitely and the one they sell is the same one everybody sells, which is the one I have, made for the rear sump pan...

I stopped at my shop and was able to find two of the pickups I have. Attached is a crappy cell phone picture of the two I found. If they are what you need, let me know and I'll send one down.

The center of the inlet should be 6 1/2" from the edge of the can.

Here's what my pan looks like... I think the pickup in the left on your photo is the correct one, but I'm taking a guess.

Just so you know, the two two pickups in the picture are identical.

I don't want to send a pickup that won't fit. I think both of the ones I have found are from "shoebox" ('49-'51) Fords, so I don't know if they will fit a'53. Here are a few better pictures so the O/P can decide for himself. If anyone else has some insight, please feel free to contribute.

I don't know what that pickup fits, but it is too short. In your first picture, that dimension should be close to 11 1/2".
I've got boxes of pickups and none match the one you have pictured.

Boy, Jack. That's strange. Other than one '51 Merc and one 8RT (year unknown), all of the other engines I have torn apart for parts were out of "shoebox" Fords. Since the two pickups I show are identical, I figured they had to be from a "shoebox". I've moved since I saved these things, so things may have gotten mixed up. Anything is possible.

To the O/P - At this point, I don't know if I can help you. Maybe you can decide for yourself from the measurements and pictures. If I've wasted your time, I apologize.

Thanks, Murre. I have no idea where I would have gotten two of them, but I'll take your word for it.

The 8RT would have had one in it.
Will fit the pre -48 style engines to since they are rearsumps with a shortbody pump to.

Is there any reason my fabricated pickup won't work? I'm using 1/2" copper tubing/fittings and an aluminum bulkhead to go into the pump. The whole thing will be silver soldered together using the mesh screen shown as the pickup tube filter. Curious what you think of my idea?
