Trying to sort out the weather stipping on the '55 project and found a discrepancy. Seems like there was an early & late weather stripping for the back top of the door? I'm missing the cast retainer thing for the driver side door and can't seem to find install instructions anywhere? Seems like maybe this was done away with it late '55 & '56? Would like some advice and guidance from those who've dealt with this??? Thanks!

My '55 Victoria is missing the same casting on the driver side. Sid here on the forum advised me that the '56 seal would replace it. It does, sorta. Only one of the mounting holes for the casting lines up with the '56 piece. There is a second piece of the '56 part that fits in the notch, and the horizontal door lip that the 2nd piece screws to only has room for one of the two sheet metal screws.

Help with '55 Crown Vic "top of rear door seal" Early/Late?
Quote:
Does this retainer hold the door opening WS on the actual door opening frame (door glass closes against it)?

This cast piece is on the rear top of the door frame. The door weather strip wraps around it. Sorry about the small picture, I lifted it from the web.
60B is the Victoria body code My Victoria was built in February. 64B is Crown Victoria body code. (found on Web) |

Yes, that's what I'm missing also. The car is in the build stage so It might just be easier to use the '56 type seals and drill a few new holes?

That is what I did after failing to find the missing cast piece. I only used the one attaching screw for the large part and one for the smaller, top piece. The turned over piece that the outer whiskers attaches to is too short in the rear to use two screws on the small piece.

As for the other style retainer- Text shows B5A 7620572-A(RH) and 73C (LH) for both years 55/56. The suffix C tells me that the original PN was progressed from A to finally C, meaning that there was a design(s) progression. I only have FINAL EDITION of the 49/59 FORD MPC. Earlier editions or the use of an OSI catalog could possibly ID when the changes came about. The vendor I mentioned above may also have the missing info. TEXT Section is attached below. If you need anything else, I will be glad to help if I can.
