Default O1T-6108 piston direction

I am installing O1T- 6108 pistons in a 1936 Ford LB block, I don't see any direction marks, Does this mean that they can go in either way?
thanks Dave T

Early ford pistons have the pistonpin centered with no offset to they can go in any way.
The change to offset came with the 8BA.

If they have a split skirt, they'll be marked 'front' so the solid side of skirt goes on the thrust side

If everything is going to work properly, pistons should only go up and down. Sideways is a NO NO.

Yep, I vote for the up and down ones, never had any luck with the side to side.

Corvairs, as well as many aircraft recips seem to work pretty damn well with that side to side shuffle! DD

Never had a corvair or an airplane, but the old v dubs and bmw motorsickles did well with the side to side movement. The jury is still out on the '96 outback I bought my wife for 3 grand, another 3 grand later.... Sorry, couldn't help but chime in. Seems we're a bunch of wiseacres here.

VWs, Subarus, Porsches, Tuckers & BMWs worked good, not Corvairs. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Guess we were talking different things, built vw engines once upon a time. Pistons work better going up and down the cylinder and not side to side within the cylinder. It was an attempt at humor that seems to have totally failed!!!

Guess I had better not attempt a career in standup!!!!!!

I don't like offset wrist pins, they rob power nad the crank is already offset. Bacl in the 60's we would reverse them for more power. Probably didn't do much, but it made you feel goog.

They're both up and down and side to side. 45 degree cylinder banks. Half and half.

Don't worry all humour was understood.

Mart.

I'm just glad Henry didn't get carried away with that X-block design idea he had. There would have been pistons going every which a way! :-)
