Default Red centre car event

Last weekend we went to the middle of Australia,(Alice Springs, 2600 klms from home) for a car event.
We took my sons car ,the yellow one .
There were 817 cars entered, sadly, only one flathead, a Pilot,I never got close enough for a pic or to talk to the owner, but it looked and sounded nice.
some of the cars had to be seen to be believed, all driving around town, the Mc Donalds drive through was the place to be.check out the engine in the blue ute next to us.
The car we took was not a flathead but its my sons and he made all the engine stuff himself.
We did a few runs on the drag strip, this is the best strip I have ever seen and was as smooth as silk to drive on.a credit to the club out there.

Thanks for sharing pictures.
Nice road trip, how many overnights in each direction? I figure that's 'bout half of our continent.
That ute looks like it has a large appetite. Did you hear it?
I like the quad light set-up on the other.

Hi Everyone. Lawrie thanks for taking us along. Your sons car looks neat, any details? Being from the US I don't even recognize the make. How about a shot of the engine bay?

Thanks again!

Jeff, Car is an early 70,s GM small sedan 202 cuin inline 6,
Its turbo charged, has one of my home modified early 3 speed auto,s
My boy made his own intake and exh manifolds, fuel injection and Ign setup.
all done in my shed.
Tom, we sooked out and sent the car up in a transporter as my boy works FIFO and only had a few days off,to drive would take 4 days each way, and the blue ute sounded awsome and destroyed the tyres on the pad.

The inernet is wonderful. Torana. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "to fly"

Lawrie, you're too kind to share more info and photos!

That shed looks like it's the place to be! I hear good stuff about straight sixes. I can tell there's some pride when you describe the work your son has put together.

I must say I'm also curious about that beast with the racing stripes. EDIT: Mustang you say? Nice angle on the photo!
