We are building an early ford hot rod and these shocks suit our build using only correct early parts. But these very clean shocks are dry of oil and need a rebuild .The body unscrews from the base with what appears to be a threaded locking ring below. They are the std 4" bolt pattern with holes offset from the centerline . These are smooth bodied like model A but with a splined arm unlike model a square, pat # 1087017 part # 1426115-1499660any links to rebuild tips or rebuild kits and positive ID much appreciated
.Thanks barners Last edited by my4dv8; 08-26-2017 at 02:55 PM. |

Houdaille made shocks for more than just Ford. They also made dampers for the aircraft industry. Bell Helicopter used "Who-Die" dampers on their stabilizer bars. The old 38 thru 41 Ford Chassis Parts Catalog also has a lot of info on the shocks and shock arms

Just yesterday I got the shocks that I had removed from my '35 Fordor. I put them on this morning and am very happy so far. I sent them July 20th and got them back Aug 26. His contact is [email protected], his shipping address is 788 Tea St, Charlemont, MA 01339. He gave me identification information on what I had taken off too, the fronts were 40-41.

If I needed shocks built today, I would send them to Andy Falandes as Jeff just mentioned. Bill trained Andy and then turned the business over to him. Andy sets up at Hershey in Bills old spot in the Chocolate Field, Row CU, nextdoor to Frank Miller and his Dad

my4dv8, As I review the information, I see you're in NZ. Andrew may also be able to ship you something from his stock. It will certainly look period correct for an early Ford hot rod, but probably painted black in color.
On what you've got... Very interesting. JM 35 is a wealth of information! Maybe we now understand why they are very clean and dry? Searching reveals the patent is from 1912 and is registered to Maurice Houdaille. The second number turns up a lot of hits. https://www.google.com/search?q=1426...hrome&ie=UTF-8
