The block is '48-'53 (USA), oil pan and 1/2 bell are '48-'52 truck, front mount and pumps may be '53 truck (need better pics) and heads are '49-'51 Ford car, also used on some F-1 pickups. No real way to really know what it came out of.

That 3" cast iron 1/2 bell was used on all '48-'52 trucks, US.

Except for Mercury's, all '49-'53 engines are the same . Looks kinda "moist"; have you tried to turn it over yet?

I have to get in on the ground and in the shop. I have a bottom of a shopping that might work as a dolly. I might start by pulling the intake and see how many of the valves are stuck. Any suggestions? |

You need to get GB to weigh in. He is the king of taking stuck engines and getting them running

The water pumps are '48-'52 truck, and the front mount may be custom made.

After going back to the first picture, I'll agree the front mount does looks like production '53 truck, but if you enlarge the last pictures, the pumps sure look like they have the earlier mount "ears". Better pictures would really help.

The last picture looks like it might have part of the ear broke off. 53 truck used a water pump like a car but had a wide belt

That one U-shaped front mount was used on the hundred series pickups & trucks that still had flatheads in 1953. The Y-block mount was very similar in later years and on larger trucks in 53.

Along with the '53 truck change to a central front mount, the bell housing held up the rear with two side mounts, allowing the transmission to hang free.

Okay thanks for the info. I pulled the intake and sludge is not too bad. Washed it down with some diesel. Some valves are stuck some not.
I'll probably pull the heads next. When did they used aluminum timing cover? Last edited by 36coupe; 06-11-2017 at 09:31 AM. |

The aluminum bodied distributor came out in late '50 with it's lower supported alloy front cover, but there are also alloy covers that match the iron covers used with the short shaft cast iron distributors, but I don't know when they were first made.
Your water pumps are definitely '48-'52 truck. |
