Default *1937 Pickup Windshield Regulator*

I'm going to have the rubber seal and glass replaced on my 37 before winter hits and I want to get the Winshield working to get some fresh air in. Looking through the windshield I can see that the regulator seems to be there but the handle on the dash just spins around. My question is, do I need a new regulator? Plus, when I take it in to have the glass and seal replaced is this something the glass shop can unbolt and bolt the new regulator in?

The handle may be stripped on the shaft, probably fix by drilling a hole and use a roll-pin through handle and shaft; or the gear drive on the regulator is stripped/ broken and I don't know the most probable failure mode on that regulator. Has the windshield be sealed closed? To R&R the regulator you need to remove the top panel off the dash and hold regulator mounting nuts from underneath the dash.

I don't know if the windshield has been sealed shut or not. It might just be stuck from age. The top panel of the dash looks like it is held in with 3 sheet metal screws on each side. Looks like I Can't get to them unless the windshield is open at the bottom. Could I try and pop the windshield out at the bottom from inside or is that a bad idea if it has been sealed shut? If it is sealed shut, how would a fellow go about getting it open?

Here are a few pics. I can't find a regulator for a 37 but I did a regulator for the 35 & 36. Will the 35-36 work on the 37?

No, the '37 regulator is different than the others. I think you may be in for replacing the regulator, but I would check the handle first. It comes off when you remove the dash cover and you will see how if it held on with a lock ring.

How does the dash panel come off? I can see 3 screws on each side through the windshield but see no way to get to them.

Well, looks like it was painted with the windshield closed. Might try Barnfind08 or the regulator guy for NOS. REGULATOR ROY 609-828-8537 from a recent window post.

Are these the screws (circled in red) that need to be removed in order to remove the dash panel? If so, how do you remove them when I can't get the windshield to crank open at the bottom?

Just got home from work and had a little time to check the windshield before we head to the county fair to watch the grand kids show their 4-H animals. I can pop the window from the inside at the bottom corners and the frame moves so it doesn't look like the windshield is sealed in. If I just knew how to get that dash panel out I could check out the regulator and at least see if I can get the windshield to open a little.

It sounds like the regulator is holding it closed. Can you reach the screws that hold the regulator arms to the windshield frame? If so, remove them and the windshield should push open.

OK, I believe the '37 dash is very sim to my '38 so here goes. Look under the bottom edge of the dash overhang. I believe that you should find the screws that hold it to the dash. You will probably have to remove the interior pillar trim on each side of the windshield first as they may sit over the edge of the top of the dash panel. Note that the window crank comes off with the dash top panel. You do not have to remove it first as it should slide off the windshield crank shaft. Remove these pieces and you will have access to the crank mechanism.
