Default 33 3 Brush Gen

I'm in the process of restoring a 6v 3 brush gen for the 33.
I'm following instructions from an old V8 times post on replacing the timken bearings with a double row roller bearing. Have made the necessary spacers and all things seem OK, BUT. Have heard that these bearings are unable to handle the thrust produced by the fan. The specs say the load handling far exceeds that of the tapered roller types.
Is any one running this modification ?.

I believe I mentioned I have been running it for years now. I use Charlie Schwendler supplied bearing and the two spacers.
