Default Safety fuse

Is this the fuse that some of you have to keep the cars from burning?

Some folks use that. Some folks install an in-line fuse or breaker. Some folks use nothing at all.

Yes I believe it is. I bought and installed a fuse holder from Fun Projects but I can't say I'm all that impressed as it just doesn't look like it belongs there.

Put a tie wrap tight around the middle of the fuse, and it makes removal easy.

I drive mine a lot, and in all weather. Also, mine spits a little oil and other stuff. I find that this fuse arrangement is prone to fouling. It gets a coating of crud, and it ends up with a bad connection. When that happens I started blowing headlights...taillights...brake lights...etc.

I switched to one that is made for marine applications. It is better sealed from the weather and everything else. I think I just picked it up at a local boat shop. I've never had a problem since.

It looks like this one:

I don't have one on mine (yet), but I agree with KGBnut that the one sold by all the vendors is not very good. In addition to his experience, there is also lots of exposed areas that are "hot" on that holder that are opportunities for shorting with tools and other metal pieces. I like this style...

I ran the charging wire into the passenger side of the firewall, behind the terminal box. Then I attached the fuse holder pictured above to the charging wire, and the other end of the fuse wire to the terminal box. No fuse showing looks original, and it's out of the elements.

Yes, that is the fuse unit used by those whom do not want a fire in their wires. Make sure it is just serving the wire from it to the terminal block on the firewall. The cable from the battery to the starter should just go to the starter.

If you put a fuse between the generator and battery, when it blows the generator output will be without battery control and can cook the generator windings with up to 40 volts, unless the engine dies at the same time.

I looked at those but did not want to cut my new wiring harness to fit it in.....

But I'm liking it more and more.... the fuses are easier to find...

And the harness isn't new anymore....

I think about that also. I am tempted to put it between the yellow wire and the terminal box, but INSIDE the terminal box, OR on the yellow wire where it attaches to the ammeter. It is not super accessible in those locations, but I don't believe it is going to ever blow (famous last words ) and it won't show there.
