Default How do I remove the knob on 46 light switch?

How can I remove the knob on the end of the light switch shaft without harming it as I want to reuse it.

They normally have some type of release mechanism on the switch that releases the shaft. Like Ralph posted, a photo would help. Here's examples for a mustang and ranger. The third photo is an earlier Ford switch. On that one you use a small flat blade throw the oval hole to release the clip. It is just going to depend on the type of switch you have.
