Question Deluxe Tudor Sedan

HI:

I have a question I have a Late 31 Deluxe Tudor Sedan and I'm in a spot here on the Frame I can tell that the side tire mount was Dealer installed because it wasn't riveted onto the frame that I can tell that is.

So did or do most if not all of the late 31 Deluxe Tudors come with a rear spare tire. Or did most of them come with a side mount spare tire on the drivers side and were they all riveted on or all of them bolted onto the frame.

As I thought that the bolted on side mount spare tire mount ones were bolted on by the dealer. So would that mean that the car originaly came with a spare tire in the rear of the car. That is if the side mount spare tire on the drivers side was bolted onto the frame.

Or how were all of those cars normally come from the factory. With the spare tire mounted in the back or were they all side tire mounted on the drivers side only as I have been told.

Thanks Let me know

Sometimes a sidemount arm that is bolted on was done by a previous restorer.
Here is the deluxe 31 tudor I had. Spare on the rear.

There are more Model A's running around today with one or two side mounts than EVER existed during the car's heyday, thanks to the dubious availability of repo parts to convert from a rear-mounted spare. Only a few passenger car Model A's were factory-equipped STANDARD with side mounts, including (but not limited to) pickup trucks of all years, '30-31 Deluxe Roadsters and Deluxe Phaetons, and the 400-A Convertible Sedan. The very low production Town CAR is also on this list, as is the 1931 Town Car Delivery. Probably most heavy duty AA trucks had a side mount, too. There may be others, but the point here is, just because a Model A body style was labeled "Deluxe" by Ford, that did not automatically mean the car came with a side mount. Any Model A could have been ordered with a side mount after the initial flurry of activity when the Model A was introduced. I seem to recall in the Ford Service Bulletins, an announcement was made during 1928 that a side mount could now be ordered by the customer. I don't recall the month.
The VAST majority of Deluxe Tudor Sedans left the factory with a rear mounted spare. What happened after that was up to the dealer, the new car buyer and predominately to a host of subsequent owners/restorers in the past 85 years. In your case, you can probably tell if the car left the factory with a rear mount by examining the rear body cross member and the center body panel. If it had a rear mount originally, there are most likely telltale signs of the hole being filled in on the rear center panel (usually not very well = cracking or wavy), and by feeling along the lower cross member for signs of filling in the threaded holes for the lower two mount bolts. But the fact that your side arm frame mount is bolted instead of riveted almost certainly indicates that someone, sometime, somewhere, added the side mount, as "2manycars" states. If the bolt heads are modern with the hardness slashes on them, you can bet a restorer did this. If the heads are smooth on top and taller than modern bolts, it may have been added by a dealer.

I will have to check that one out as I don't remember what was on the bolts as I did that years ago. When I took the car apart and it's been along time for me to get this car back together.
