Default 40 ford coupe

Would like to install a Ford Coyote motor in my 40. Any advice on how it will fit?

Most of this group is uncomfortable with the likely surgery required as you may need to cut the firewall for clearance and cut the frame cross member for transmission clearance. You also may or may not have clearance issues with the inner fenders. The oil filter may interfere with some steering boxes. Exhaust routing might be an issue.

You will likely have to do your own engineering or find a shop who will. Ultimately you have to stuff the motor in, remove any offending original sheetmetal, and then rebuild any structures you have compromised.

Once you get the dirty work done, the guys here are usually very nice about helping with issues of body fit and original parts interchanges.

Why wouldn't they like this on the HAMB?If I hadn't been so heavily invested in 351s I would have done this.

Putting a Coyote in the '40 isn't a bad idea, but the HAMB's main focus is pre-'65 traditional. Some later things they'll allow, most they won't.

Way outside their (HAMB) time frame. The HAMB is for more traditional Hot Rods vs modern Street Rods.

Saw a completely stock looking '40 deluxe coupe, with great patina at Bonneville several years ago with a Coyote in it. Everything else was stock, very cool.

Really, a stock transmission, rear end, brakes behind that engine? Sounds pretty unsafe to me.

It'll actually be very safe as that engine will destroy any stock driveline components in short order. Though I doubt that is the plan.

I have to wonder given the question and the magnitude of the modification if the car won't be for sale shortly after reality sets in.

Nothing is as easy as it appears on TV.

I didn't know that. There doesn't seem to be any forum for late model ford engines into early fords.

Why would you use a stock drive train?In my 40 conv.project I have a recessed firewall,a TCI frame,and a 9 inch rear end.So a coyote with a 6 speed auto would have been great.Instead I have 408 clevor with a c6 and a gear vendors overdrive.

Try Streetrodding.com for this question. It leans more to the street rod culture. I've belonged to it for years.

Street rodder Magazine did the entir '40 Ford coupe buidl on a "carpenter" steel body (with a slight chopped top) and the Ford Coyote engine. LOTS of work!

It wasn't SofaKing. Go back and read Post # 10; that is the fella who noted a 40 with coyote and all else stock. Sofa was just responding to that.
