Here's a picture of the two tools I like to use for automotive electrical checks. At the very least a person should have the test light under the seat. I like the Sperry SP-152A multimeter because it isn't too large and yet has all the functions needed. I also like the Harbor Freight Cen Tech 30779 test light because it's under $5 and well built.
This meter was purchased on ebay, and they show up every month or so for less than $20. |

I need to get me another test light, my old on gave up the ghost 2 or 3 years ago and I haven't replaced it yet. Will look for one next time I am at Harbor Freight.

Don't be fooled by wrong ebay listings, such as this one. This is a cheaper meter without the features of the Sperry SP-152A.
