Default AV8 "No Turning Back"

Six guys and 5 minutes later the body is off. Now to swap out rear ends(the 40` is 90% complete, just need to set the back lash. Walt, I`ll be calling!!!).
I will keep this project updated at different milestones.

So what are the plans? Looks like you're starting with a very nice roadster, where are you headed with it and what year/style of V8? Are you putting in a 39 type transmission, what are you doing for brake pedals, center cross-member, etc? It has all been done countless times before - just wondering on your approach and goals.

Good luck!

This is how i like to do mine. Have done about a dozen to date. Short box plate. Remove the stock center crossmember. Trim down the F1 and relocate the pedal mount about 1" closer to the trans. Use all old ford parts including the clutch linkage. Easy to pull the transmission later if needed. K members are a pain. Z the rear ad with a model T spring gets it down in the back. Has a 39 trans but this one is running a sweet little hopped up ford ohv . Flatheads have trouble keepin up

Hey skidmarks, what is that engine? How did you adapt it to the '39 style transmission? Did you have to fab the front motor mounts or are those part of the engine? Thanks!

Well this is the it will go hopefully: 59A flat head, 39` trans, using model a rear springs over axle, 40` front and rear hubs, hydraulic brakes, open driveshaft. Still trying to figure out which way to go on the clutch and brake pedal situation. With the different options its getting to be a bit confusing. Make brackets to use original model a pedals, 32`pedals or even 39` to 40` pedals. I suppose after lots more questions and pictures it will become clear.

If you use the F1 crossmember and pedals its simple and straight forward. Any other pedal set up will require much more work. The F1 pedals bolt flat to the crossmember and use the early 39 to 48 master cylinder. All of the clutch linkage will work.

Closed drive is simple if you have a lathe. Open drive your going to need a torque arm.

I made the motor mounts and basically you could swap the 4 cyl motor out and bolt a flathead v8 right in its place.

The motor is a ealry ford and basically the 4 cyl version of a 223 6cyl. Of the Y block era. Motor has had a bunch of machine work done to really wake it up.

Building a 28 roadster now with the same chassis setup and motor. Except it will have a cowl steering . This chassis above has a 48 to 52 F1 box.

For me the no looking back is cutting the frame rails for a step or a Z. Impressed me! Before that I would only do that which can be reversed with parts and a wrench. Now I would not hesitate to Z or step a frame, kind of like coupe kids jumping into a chop job, only smarter I hope. As long as it doesn't include those dumb-assed "F-1" crossmembers which would be a deal breaker. Good Luck: Fred A

what if you use a bracket from Dennis Cling for the stock Model A pedals, he makes parts to put a 39 trans in a Model A

Huh? Why? Did you ever use an F-1 xmember? When done right, they look factory.
