I have.040" ford pistons that come up .019" above the deck. I'm going to need to take some off the block, hopefully no more than .005". Is there a way to tell how much, if any has been removed previously?, and what is the max safe amount that can be removed on a B block? Tia

I don't know what kind of measuring tools you have, but stock deck height was 11.500". Measuring from the pan rail to the deck will tell you where you are at.

B blocks are notoriously thinner in the deck area so be careful.

hm, .019 is a interesting #. makes me ask qs; has custom work been done on this engine previously and decked at that/those times ![]() ford stock popup was +/- .031. .040 pistons say yes, prev engine work was done. this info alone, would alert to importance of to check blk ht for present condition relative to ford stock ht(11.500in), as ford made B blk had tooo thin deck material to begin with. now IFyou have aftermarket b diamond, guys say that that blk deck was made thicker....true or not your guess. good luck |

Thanks for the 11 1/2" measurement that's what I needed. I assuming it's the same A or B block? I have no idea about the work done on this engine. All I know is it's .040" over and all the parts have ford written on them.
