Default V8 Clutch adjustment

Hey guys,

I am putting a v8 Clutch on my banger, but the fingers on the pressure plate, seem way to close to the disc, Is there a way to adjust these fingers so they are further away? any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Jon

Before you get it all installed I would get rid of that clutch disc and get one
that the springs can't fall out.

Check the bottoms of the bolts. The V8 PP's I have had the adjusting bolts welded in place and hence not adjustable. You have to take it on faith that the rebuilder made the measurements, and for me they worked out, although on one I would have liked it a little tighter. I think it is VAn Pelt Sales that has a book on the factory method of adjusting the V8 plates (can't find mine right now)_ but it involves much more than the simple 5/8-11/16 A adjustment for the A PPs, which I do not know if it works on the V8 plates. Factory used a dummy disc for measurement and adjustment.
I would say if you got it from a reputable dealer, go with their adjustment. If anyone has specific measurements without the dummy disc, sure would like to get them.

Hey Jon,
You have the 'good' style pressure plate. That 'disc' will last you a long time, however, if you ever hear a rattle sounds coming from that area, take inspection plate off and look for a loose disc spring(s).
IMO, when you replace this disc, if ever, use the disc with 'captured' springs...an improvement over what you show as using . Good luck

Haven't tried to install mine yet, but if you Google 'early ford v8 clutch plate adjustment' it seems to be from thick linings on the clutch plate. A bit of beach racing might fix it.

It looks like you may have a disc with lining that is too thick?
I have broken springs before and now run truck discs that have no springs.
