Had a friend help me put my gas tank back in my 30 tudor today read all the search threads on it and in one of the old books i had also stated the correct method to do this. I used a cherry picker with a strap inside the gas tank to suspend the tank while we fitted. On the welting i laid down a strip of double sided tape and then put the welting on top of this to keep everything in place. I tried something i had never done, I took a propane torch and heated the end of a center punch to open up all the bolt and screw holes this worked great it opened the welt a round the hole and made putting the bolts back in very easy. Put the windshield space on first on top of the welting did the cuts at the corners and the dangling cloth trick also used some of the plastic shims for woodwork as well tight fit went in easy the corners were a bear but got it done and it turned out perfect. Also installed a set of cowl lamps to use for turn signals. Put the dash 31 steering column support and additional gauges back on. I drilled a hole for a small indicator light in the middle of the steering support for a red indicator light to let me know when the ignition was on since i am using a fsi ignition distributor. i did not want to put a big clunky turn signal switch on the steering column so used a six pole double throw toggle switch and put it in another hole drilled in the the cent or the steering column support not as convenient but neater looking imho. New fuel lines put a glass sediment bowl with filter on. Vacuum wiper now working put on cloth impregnated hose to finish the job. Front and rear ends rebuilt new seals and all new cast iron drums and shoes and installed teds floaters. Today and monday tear down tranny, gears and all are in great shape will install sealed bearings and o-ring sealed cluster gear shafts. Will also start on the engine as well short block is done. New clutch lightened flywheel balanced crank oil filter added this motor had the b or policed head on it so car should run well and of course it is balanced with inserts rather than babbit.
The help and this forum and other sources such as Tom Endy Mitch brent and others have lended advice as well and made things a lot better to accomplish this. Thanks for all the help so far fellas. |
