A friends fuel system on his seldom used 31 Tudor is clogged with a Jelly-like goo. No flow from his tank even with a little air pressure applied to it. Does he have to Remove the tank or is there some Magic Bullet solvent that will clean it out?
Thanks |

removal of tank is a major undertaking, suggest a morning spent flushing it with fuel, agitating fuel in tank with airline into it , syphoning it out, repeat, back pressure through fuel line with airline , flush, repeat, start again repeat etc etc, do it outside and no smoking!

The tank was probably sealed at some point by a well-meaning but mis-directed person and the alcohol in the fuel has eaten away at the sealer, loosened it, and made a mess inside the tank. Sealer should be avoided as long as there is gasahol around. Alcohol is close to being a universal solvent, and dissolves way more stuff than gasoline ever could

I would do as John just said. You could use lacquer thinner, or E-85 to help dissolve the crap in the tank. Let it soak for a few hours, then rock the car side to side and drain through a cloth into a bucket. Once drained dump the strained liquid back in and repeat the process until it's clean inside.
