I just rebuilt the steering box in my 32 Roadster. I updated to a 15:1 worm & sector. I followed the instructions ..exactly ...in the Ford Service Bulletin. The car drives like a new car. If I take my hands off the wheel, it tracks straight as an arrow at 55mph.
My advice is find the Service instructions and follow them to the letter.

Here's the adjustment procedure.
I wonder if the front wheels are suppose to be off the ground when doing this?

Wheels off ground and Pitman arm disconnected. That from memory so double check that against Ford Maintenance Manual.
