Default Early year 1932 fuel pump push rod

I need the length of the fuel pump push rod for the early 32 fuel pump. I'll try to post a picture but if not able it's the one that sits straight above the rod and not off to the side. V8 motor.

Bought these here and they are supposed to be spot on for this pump . Only one end is dimpled .

David,

With respect, that's the late '32 (and '330 fuel pump and push rod. The early '32 pump (two versions) and push rod is shown below along with the late pump and rod. The early rod with the mushroom end measures 6 3/4" versus 8 1/8" for the late rod with the nipple end..

From what I can tell in the picture, his pump in not the early one - it appears to be the "taller" - or what I believe to be the "later" one.

Dave (or other 32 Guru's)
On the late 32 early 33 pumps with the hole in the base and spring steel band to cover it, is the cover band supposed to be a particular finish as I have one that is chrome and I notice the one pictured appears to maybe be cad plated at one time????

David,

Judging from the timing of our two posts, we're both up too late for our own good. You're right, I relied on the words and not the photo. Not only is it a late '32 pump, it is a very late version with the ventilation holes which the first version of this pump did not have. You have my apologies.

Robert,

Strictly speaking, that cadmium-plated band is not a '32 part, but rather was released in the spring of '33 and carries a "40" prefix part number. With the advent of cold weather in the northern climes, the holes were added to the pump to prevent freezing of condensation which rendered the pumps inoperable. Come spring, those holes were a shortcut to dust entering the crankcase, hence the clip to seal them off. One wonders how many car owners remembered to remove the clip during the winter months of the years ahead and to replace it each spring.

For what it is worth, "tall" pumps without the ventilation holes are extremely rare as the dealers were sent a special service letter in late '32 with instructions to add the holes to the pumps without holes.

So chrome is not correct? I bought this pump as an oem replacement/factory rebuild as it was in the Mfg box and looks as new at a flea market years ago. The band was chrome at the time of purchase

No, they were originally cadmium plated.

It is a later 32 pump with the holes and the push rod is the 8 1/8 3 piece. I'm new to these fords and in searching for a rebuild kit see fuel pumps that are coming off the side advertised as 32 to 48 so I assumed these were later year modifications so I called mine an early year pump. In any case does anyone have or know where I can get a rebuild kit? Also looking for a rebuild kit for the Detroit Lubricator carburetor?
Thanks for the help on the push rod.
