Default Late style generator bushing removal

Hi, I search but couldn't find the answer. My rear bushing is starting to sequel after use, I can hear it thru a stethoscope. Whats the best way to remove the bushing w/o a blind hole puller? Thanx in advance

The blind hole puller from Harbor Freight works decent and not too pricey, though I do not know how well it works for that bushing. I have used it for a bunch of things and it made life easier.

Otherwise, crush the bearing with a small chisel. Be sure to not hurt the hole.

A drop of oil should stop the squeal.
Are you sure it's the bushing? I've heard brushes squeal.

How do you stop the brushes from squealing? The bushing has some play on the armature shaft, it squeals after a ride, I could hear it right on the end plate over the bushing, didn't think about the brushes. How do you stop em from squealing?

You can slip some 220 grit sandpaper under the brush, then rotate the shaft and paper back and forth a little to give the brush a fresh surface, or seat them if they are new brushes. Just remove the belt and grab the pulley to rotate it.

Follow up: Replaced the end plate with new bushing installed. I loaded the bushing with motor oil b4 it was installed. Took car for a 30 minute ride, and the squeal from the bushing is gone, the brushes are not making any noise so it looks like its fixed. Thanx to Kevin and Tom for their insight and responses.

One (1) Very Primitive Generator/Starter Bushing Removal Tool:

One can make a tool to remove starter and generator bushings by grinding the end of the round head on a carriage bolt, which is placed down at the base of the bushing.

Insert the carriage bolt head far down, head first, and allow the outer diameter of the carriage bolt head to get under the lower circumference of the bushing.

Then grab the threaded end of the carriage bolt and begin to pry the bushing upwards and out.

After it move upwards a little, get washers a little smaller than the diameter of the bushing, and place washers in bottom of the bushing opening to act as shims for the carriage bolt head to rest on and continue to pry the bushing out.

When the lip of the bushing extends upwards far enough, grab it with a needle nose pliers and extract it.

Another excellent idea from Mr. Chauvin, especially since I am already kind of primitive myself.
