Default Just hit 3000 miles

As I was driving home from work yesterday, I watched the odometer hit 3000. To many that might not be much, but to me it was am affirmation that what I was trying to do was, for now at least a success. I have been driving my A everyday since January, everywhere I go. And with the exception of a few minor adjustments, and some serious maintenance, the car seems to run better every time I drive it. I live in south Florida so with the exception of the rain, very enjoyable. So if anyone out there wants to know if turning your A into a daily is a good or bad Idea, for me at least, I can say it is a blast.

Agree .......... daily Model A drivers give least trouble.

Gas tank purged often & clean; constant flow in radiator keeps tubes clean; changing oil often keeps crankcase clean; ........ ongoing maintenance keeps everything well lubricated.

Unlike old lazy sit in one place couch potatoes ...... active Model A's are not much different from young active athletes ..... always ready to get up and go.

That is only 20 miles a day so the A should ether and that minor useage! How much additional insurance was it? How serious was the maintenance? Wayne !

Congratulations on your milestone. I drive my Tudor almost every day, weather permitting. Joined the A world about a year ago. Fortunately I live in a small town with good streets and a 40mph speed limit. Installed Mitchell 26% OD recently so cautiously expanding my trip range. Seeing an 86 year old car really brings a lot of happiness to folks. They all want to hear the Ahooga.

Congratulations! I am always glad to see someone using their A as a daily. You are fortunate enough to live somewhere that you are able to drive it daily. Some cities there is too much traffic to do this or in my case there is TOO much cold and snow to drive year around.

Thanks all. I live in a fairly congested area. Commute from Coral Springs to Boca Raton 5 days a week. I will say for the most part people give me latitude and most wave and smile. Since this is the only car I have now, sold my previous daily, hoping with the right care and maintenance, I can get 50,000 to 60,000 miles before any major work needs to be done. The car had a frame off nut and bolt restore done back in the late 80s. The gentleman spent a little over $81,000 on it. Sadly not to long afterwards he must have passed. The car sat until 2015 when the family, decided to get rid of it and got a local car dealer to try and sell it for them. They ran an ad saying 1929 ford for sale. No pictures, no description. After several calls, I went to look at it and bought it on sight. All the paper work from the build, as well as the photos of the ground off restore were in the back floorboard. He had it done to concourse specs and won numerous awards. All documentation also in back. Not being put up correctly, some light paint flaws and some brightwork issues. Other than that, the car was perfect. After having it trailered home and changing fluids, cleaning fuel tank and lines, rebuilding carburetor, and a new battery, it fired right off. It had 251 miles on it when I bought it, hasn't missed a beat yet, knocking on wood. I consider myself fortunate to have been the one to take a chance to go see an old 1929 ford. Just goes to show that not all is as advertised.

The ones that get driven most, run the best.

Fantastic! You are doing what a lot of us dream about. If a Model A can serve as a lone daily driver in busy south Florida, it can anywhere! Peyton Quina
